Robert is exploring what happens when kindness looks like solidarity. A climate activist, organiser and campaigner for climate justice, he co-founded the Downham Solidarity Fund in Downham Market as a side project with friends. Together, they’ve already redistributed over £4,500 in small mutual aid grants - up to £40 at a time - offering neighbours facing financial difficulty simple, unconditional cash support.

Robert’s belief is clear: people understand their own needs best. In a time when even £10 can mean breathing space for a family, kindness is not deciding for someone - it is trusting them to decide for themselves. Inspired by models such as the Red Cross and GiveDirectly, which champion unconditional transfers as both effective and dignified, Robert sees money as a proxy for resources and a vehicle for restoring agency.

With $500, he will add to the Solidarity Fund, making the money immediately available as no-strings-attached support for members of his local community. His idea is a gentle challenge - an invitation to consider whether the most courageous form of generosity might simply be trust.
