Kristen is supporting students at an underfunded school in Danville, Kentucky. A full time mum of three and part time targeted case manager, Kristen spends her days helping both her kids and her clients navigate the messier parts of life with care, humour and grit. Through her local city school, Danville Independence, she has seen how great the need is for some students - from foster children sleeping on the floor, to young people feeling the sting of stigma through something as simple as the shoes on their feet. With $500, Kristen will either provide 4 or 5 mattresses for students in foster care, or team up with the school’s mentorship programme to take 3 students on shopping trips for new shoes that bring comfort, confidence and dignity. Her idea meets an immediate need, but also has the potential to spark wider community support through future mattress or shoe drives and a deeper relationship with the school’s resource team.
