Nisha runs PRANI, a small, volunteer-led animal rescue in India dedicated to caring for street dogs who are often overlooked or mistreated. Working around the clock, her team responds to emergencies, rehabilitates injured animals, and has already sterilised over 500 and rescued more than 200 since 2022 — all without formal funding or safety nets. As conditions become more difficult, with increasing displacement and harm toward street animals, Nisha is focusing on immediate, life-saving intervention.
With $500, she will create a “Second Chance Kit” — a portable, practical resource that allows her team to respond quickly to animals in urgent need. The kit will enable on-the-spot treatment of injuries, including severe wounds, as well as provide medication, pain relief, anti-parasitics and nutritional support. It will also fund the follow-up care needed to give animals a real chance at recovery.
Nisha’s idea turns a modest amount into multiple, tangible interventions — helping 15 to 25 animals survive who otherwise might not. It is a powerful example of quiet, relentless compassion, ensuring that even in the darkest moments, there is still someone who shows up.
