Ethan is turning a simple game into a leadership movement. An author, storyteller and student mentor based in Springfield, Missouri, Ethan was inspired by his daughters in 2018 to play catch every day for a year. That commitment became a book (Zondervan, 2020) and sparked a grassroots movement built on a simple belief: when you throw and catch a ball with someone, you build trust, presence and connection.

Today, Ethan works with Community Partnership of the Ozarks, using playing catch to teach character values and leadership skills to students in grades 3-12. He also leads professional development clinics, helping co-workers build camaraderie through play, and travels to speak about what this small, human ritual can teach us about mental health and what it means to belong.

With $500, Ethan will invest in his summer mentoring initiative, Catching Leadership. Students commit to playing catch for 50 days over their summer break - 10 days with Ethan working through leadership curriculum, 15 days with community leaders of their choice, and 25 days with others across their community. Those who complete the challenge receive a $500 Leadership Award to direct toward their own growth and goals.

After three students completed the program last year, Ethan hopes to grow it despite tight non-profit budgets. This gift would ensure more young people spend their summer building confidence, connection and leadership skills - one throw at a time.
